Eight Smoking Friendly Cities and Destinations for the Summer
This year, you’ve put in quite the hustle. After endless hours of suffering through work and cold weather, it’s time to take a break. Summer is almost here, and we want your plans to be filled with vacations and traveling to new destinations. Whether your travel plans are domestic or international, here are a couple smoking friendly cities that will make the perfect destinations for the summer.
The first city on our international list currently holds a reputation for having a smoking-friendly atmosphere. Amsterdam is a very open-minded city with an economy that is funded primarily by tourism. Locals and tourists alike can buy flower at cafes where you can also smoke your souvenir. Public smoking is considered acceptable as long as you’re not near a school and you’re not causing a disturbance.
You may have heard of this city from Mike Posner’s hit, “I Took A Pill In Ibiza.” Located off Spain’s east coast, Ibiza is on an island in the Mediterranean Sea, so the beaches are quite beautiful. Not surprisingly, this city is notorious for its parties and nightlife. It’s also home to the electronic music scene, hence why Posner named a song after it. Due to its reputation for letting loose, smoking is not stigmatized, even when you’re doing it out in the open.
Peru is not only home to the most beautiful ruins in the world, Machu Picchu, but also to the smoking-friendly city of Cusco. Cusco is located near the Andes, which is a natural location for plants to grow. Your purchases here will usually be fresh and local. On top of Machu Picchu, there are old cathedrals, Lake Titicaca, and the Amazon River, all desirable tourist destinations.
Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is a city packed with landmarks left and right, some almost a millennium old and some under 100 years old. The architecture in Prague is fantastic. This eastern European city is also one of the most smoking-friendly cities in Europe. You can easily purchase smoking materials and admire the beautiful architecture while you’re at it.
Nimbin is located in New South Wales, Australia and is considered the country’s smoking capital. Their acceptance of smoking is a little complicated. Nimbin is actually one of the few states in Australia that still hasn’t completely embraced smoking; however, that’s beginning to change. The community of Nimbin completely ignores negative stigmas around smoking. There are cafes where smoking is a regular activity, and smoking is present on the street. About 25 years ago, the citizens of Nimbin engaged in a peaceful protest that sought to normalize smoking. The city is also only a short drive away from Australia’s infamous Outback.
The first city on our domestic list has developed a reputation as the most smoking friendly in the United States. It has gained such a popular standing among smoking enthusiasts that it has become a serious rival to Amsterdam. Ever since it embraced smoking, tourism in Colorado has been at an all-time high.
The Bay Area, California
Several cities around the Bay Area including Berkeley, San Francisco, and Oakland have all embraced smoking as part of their culture. Oakland has even coined the nickname Oaksterdam. Bay Area cities are often filled with stores selling glassware and other accessories. There are many places for sightseeing such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Park. You can dive into San Francisco’s hippie history and culture on Haight Street.
Shortly after Denver became a smoking destination in 2012, Seattle followed with its own culture change. However, the city’s acceptance of smoking doesn’t quite equal Denver’s. Despite its reputation for rainy weather, Seattle has a very outdoorsy atmosphere filled with art, shopping, music, and a competitive bar scene.
