Gravity Bong Guide

How to Make a Gravity Bong

How to Make a Gravity Bong

The gravity bong. The bong that has earned a reputation for packing the most punch out of any smoking device. The bong that even some of the most seasoned smokers divulge in only once in a while because of its potency. We’re here to help teach you what a gravity bong is, why you might want to smoke out of a gravity bong, and to answer the most important question that you probably have; how to make a gravity bong.

Not for the Faint of Heart

The gravity bong gets its name because it uses gravity (duh) to force the smoke into your lungs. A small bottle, with a product of your choice sitting in an aluminum foil-wrapped cap, is submerged into a larger bottle, or bucket, full of water.

Upon lighting the product, the smaller bottle is pulled upward out of the water, allowing it to fill with smoke. After removing the cap, your mouth is placed on the lid and the smaller bottle is pushed back into the water.

How Do Gravity Bongs Work?

Gravity does its thing and pushes the smoke into your lungs. The fun thing about gravity bongs, other than their potency, is that they require a bit of creativity to make. So, if you’re feeling a little on the creative side today, and feel like you can handle the gravity bong, give it a try.

Because the gravity bong requires some ingenuity, most of the things you will need can be found lying around your house somewhere. You can substitute most of these with other things if you’re feeling a little more innovative or just prefer to use something else.

Things You Will Need:

· A bucket or 2-liter bottle
· Plastic bottle—any size will work it just has to fit into the bucket or 2-liter
· Aluminum foil, or a bowl from another pipe/bong
· Box cutter or sharp knife
· Something sharp that can poke through aluminum foil (if using it)
· Product of your choice

Step 1

Using the box cutter or knife, cut off the bottom of the smaller bottle. Since this is where the smoke collects, be careful not to cut too much off or you won’t receive as big of a hit. Also, as a side note, the larger this bottle is the larger the hit will be. So, using a bucket and a 2-liter bottle will do more than using a 2-liter and a regular water bottle.

Step 2:

Also using the box cutter or knife cut off the top of the 2-liter bottle and fill it with water. If you’re using a bucket instead, simply fill that with water.

Step 3:

Take off the cap of the smaller bottle and cut a small hole in it with the box cutters or scissors. It should be large enough for air to move through but not too large that the foil, and your product, will fall through into the water. If you have a drill on hand that would work better. It’s the perfect size hole and it makes your life easier.

Step 4:

Wrap the cap of the smaller bottle in aluminum foil. Shape it so that it creates a divot for your product to fit in. It can be as small or as large as you want it to be. You will probably have to do some finessing and shaping to get everything to stay where it’s supposed to. They also make metal bowl pieces specifically for gravity bongs.

Step 5:

Using whatever poking tool you found, poke small holes into the aluminum foil. Be careful not to rip the aluminum foil! Three to five holes is ideal. If you aren’t using aluminum foil then move along to the next step.

Step 6:

Place your product of choice onto the aluminum foil-wrapped cap. Do not screw the cap back onto the bottle yet.

Step 7:

Place the smaller bottle into the water filled 2-liter bottle/bucket until only the cap is sticking out. Carefully screw the lid back onto the bottle.

Step 8:

Light the product and slowly lift the bottle out of the water while the bottle fills with smoke. If there is no smoke the lid may not be on properly or there may be gaps on one side of the bottle. There may be some trial and error involved in this part. Any gaps or leaks will compromise your gravity bong. Just keep trying until you get it.

Step 9:

Once the bottle is full of smoke, carefully unscrew the cap and put your mouth on the opening. Try not to let any smoke escape from the opening.

Step 10:

Gently push the bottle back into the water. The water going into the bottle will push the smoke into your lungs. Be careful not to over push and suck up a bunch of water. Because the smoke is going directly into your lungs do not be surprised if you cough a lot.

Some side notes:

Aluminum foil is not always the greatest thing to use. It can catch on fire and release chemicals that could have unwanted health risks. Instead of aluminum foil, you can always use a bowl from another bong or pipe.

Don’t forget to clean the bottles and cap regularly. You should replace the bottles if the smoke starts to have a weird taste.

As already noted, you will probably cough a lot. Do not be shocked if even the most experienced smokers sound like they are going to hack up a lung.
