Why You Should Quit Smoking and Start Vaping
You’ve most likely heard of them by now. Vaporizers have caused quite the stir in the smoking industry in recent years and have become one of the popular ways to smoke. Vapes’ claim to fame is their place as an alternative to smoking.
You may wonder what exactly makes vaping so popular, or how it has come to rival smoking. We’re here to answer some of the questions surrounding vaping. Ultimately, if you’re a smoker, you should consider switching over to vaping. Here’s why:
How Vaping Works
A vape has a rechargeable lithium battery with a cartridge that contains flavor, nicotine, and a handful of other ingredients, depending on the specific vape. They include a LED light and an atomizer which heats the materials and flavors in the cartridge. The concentrates are heated until they form a vapor which is what you inhale. The biggest difference between vaping and smoking is that with smoking, the material combusts or is lit aflame. What you inhale is the smoke produced from this combustion. With vaping, the material does not combust. Instead, the concentrates are vaporized, and you inhale the vapor.
Why You Should Switch to Vaping
Vaping has enjoyed the reputation of being healthier than smoking, but how exactly is it healthier? Well, it’s considered this way for a couple of reasons.
First of all, when you smoke anything, combustion produces harmful toxins such as carcinogens to be released, which are not healthy to consume. When using a vape, you don’t have to worry about this because vaporization does not use combustion. Therefore, you are avoiding toxins that you would inhale when smoking conventionally.
Also, when you smoke cigarettes, you consume thousands of various chemicals, many of which are believed to cause cancer. With vaporizers, there are only a handful of different ingredients, which are usually nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, food flavoring, and water. Nicotine is one of the more hazardous ingredients since it causes dependence, but you can choose the nicotine level of your E-Juice, or you can choose to have none at all.
Just because we say healthier does not necessarily mean healthy. Even though you can control the amount of nicotine you put into your vape, it is still a hazardous chemical that causes unwanted dependence.
The issue with determining how unhealthy vapes are lies in the fact that they are relatively new. There are no studies that have examined the long-term effects of vaping.
One study examining short-term use found that a chemical, formaldehyde, a byproduct of propylene glycol, is harmful and possibly a carcinogen. However, this was only produced at very high temperatures when the concentrates inside the vape began to combust, which is not a vape’s purpose. The same study found that this carcinogen was absent from the vapor when materials were heated at average temperatures. It was also unlikely that individuals would heat their vapes to extremely high temperatures because they would consequently produce a burnt, foul aftertaste.
Much research is still needed to determine how safe vapes truly are. However, it is rather clear that switching from smoking to vaping is wise.
A Conclusion That’s Still Open to Question
The research conducted has found few reasons to suggest that vaping is detrimental to your health. It’s known that nicotine causes dependence, but when using vapes properly and at safe temperatures, it seems to have few serious effects. Nonetheless, there is still a lot of uncertainty that surrounds vaping.
If you do smoke, especially cigarettes, it is pretty safe to say that vaping might be a good alternative for you. However, if you don’t smoke and you’re interested in vaping, we still suggest that you proceed with caution.
