The Birth of Vapes

Welcome to the 21st century where vaporizers are all the rage. Vaporizers, or vapes, are a type of portable electronic cigarette that is tobacco-free.

It may seem like vapes appeared out of nowhere, but surprisingly they’ve been around for decades. The first invention of vapes was created by Herbert Gilbert in 1963. Unfortunately, his invention failed because no one cared about the health risks associated with cigarettes during that time.

It wasn’t until the early 2000s when Hon Lik expanded upon Gilbert’s idea and created the modern vapes that we use today.

Vaping is Life

The art of vaping is simply inhaling and exhaling smoke from your vapor. Inside the vapor contains a cartridge where liquid or e-juice is stored. Once you inhale the device is able to convert the liquid into vapor.

It’s strange to think that vaping is a now a trend. But in this day in age, anything is possible. According to the CDC, there are around 9 million vape users in the U.S. This is a huge number that’s growing as we speak!

According to this chart, vaping has become so popular it’s predicted that its profits will surpass cigarettes within 10 years!

Why Should I Vape?

People buy vapes for many reasons. Vapes are commonly bought for people who want to quit cigarettes, hoping that vaping will cure their urge for nicotine. People also buy vapes simply to relax. Similarly to cigarettes, vapes can be used to unwind and calm your nerves.

There’s also a unique group of people called “cloud chasers” who mainly vape to do tricks with the huge clouds of smoke vaping creates.

Below is a well-known cloud chaser who goes by King Titus Vape “blowing o’s”.

Different Types of Vapes

Vapes can be put into two categories: disposable and rechargeable. Disposable vapes would be ideal for new vape smokers because they last for a brief period, they’re also cheaper. Once your e-juice runs out you throw the whole vape away and can buy another one if you chose.

Rechargeable vapes are the best investment for serious vapers. Although they cost more than disposable ones, it’s much more cost-effective than buying disposable vapes every couple of weeks. You also can experiment more with rechargeable vapes. The options of e-juice flavors you can buy increases, as well as the aesthetics of the device.

How Much Do Vapes Cost?

Vape prices vary depending on quality, features, and brand. Vapes can cost anywhere from $20 – $200, depending on the quality of the vapor and the functions that a specific vape provides. Typically, the vape device itself is the costliest, but you’ll also have to purchase e-juice, and occasionally replace parts like batteries and chargers.

If you have a rechargeable vape you’ll need to buy e-juice semi-regularly. E-juice’s are commonly priced from $10 – $20 but can fluctuate based on quality, flavor and brands.

Speaking of e-juices, there are hundreds of different kinds. You have your generic flavors like vanilla and watermelon, or you can try exotic flavors like salted caramel or peanut butter and jelly if you’re feeling risky!

Will I Smell Like Vapor?

Vaporizers don’t combust which results in the odor evaporating much quicker and won’t linger on your clothes, hair, etc. Although Vaping isn’t completely odor-free the smell is barely noticeable. Vapor is thinner than smoke from combustion so if you vape indoors the faint smell will typically be gone within a few minutes; and if you’re vaping outdoors you’ll hardly notice a smell at all.

Are There Benefits to Vaping?

Some may argue that smoking is never beneficial to your health; however, vaping isn’t the worst thing you can do to your body. As mentioned earlier, many cigarette smokers switch to vapes to help them quit cigarettes or reduce their cigarette use.

According to the UK’s Department of Health electronic cigarettes are about 95 percent safer that tobacco filled cigarettes. This is great, but let’s not forget about the other 5 percent. The UK’s Department of Health states that the remaining 5 percent of risk comes from flavorings and constituents in vapes that may pose risks in the long run.

Because vaping is relatively new there isn’t much evidence around the long-term effects vaping may cause.

Although vaping is much less detrimental to your body than cigarettes you shouldn’t start vaping e-juice with nicotine if you aren’t using it to quit tobacco products. There are still health risks associated with vaping. If you’re a non-smoker the best thing to do is to keep it that way — your lungs will thank you later!

Can Vaping Help Me Quit Smoking?

We all know how tough it is to quit smoking cigarettes. It’s no question that nicotine is very addictive. Sometimes people can be addicted to the act of smoking itself, not just the nicotine. One reason why quitting can seem almost impossible is because people miss the action of smoking. That’s right, some people literally just miss holding the cigarette to their lips and blowing out smoke.

Vapes can fill that void by acting as a substitute. You inhale and exhale the same way you would smoke a cigarette. Which can in some cases, kill the urge to smoke a cigarette.

A study at the University College London reports, “Nearly 20% of those who quit in [the] first half of 2017 have been successful, with e-cigarettes becoming the most popular method of quitting”. Vapes can act as an alternative to smoking cigarettes, making it easier for smokers to quit.

How Can I Use Vapes to Quit Cigarettes?

Quitting any bad habit is going to take time, determination and consistency. You may want to pick up a vape, take a few puffs and hope you’re cured, but sadly, that’s not how it works.

To kick off your journey to become tobacco and nicotine free, you first must purchase more nicotine. I know this sounds like a contradiction, but stay with me it’ll all make sense.

Remember when we talked about e-juices? Well, you can actually buy e-juices that contain different nicotine levels. It’s best to start with the highest amount of nicotine possible, then gradually lower the amount once you’re comfortable. This way you’re slowly weaning yourself off nicotine instead of quitting cold turkey.

Again, quitting bad habits take time, so don’t rush the process!
